Present Future, Artissima 2015
Tachypsychia is a neurological condition that is thought to alter the perception of time in highly stressful situations. The way we personally manage and relate to concepts such as time, labor and subjectivity reflects the more fundamental issue of how we define the present.
Far from being a pathological condition the feeling of being out of sync is now so widespread that it can be seen as typical of contemporary life. The sensation that time is speeding up or slowing down is closely associated with the a-synchronicity of our daily existence which may be ultimately defined by the speed rather than space. The series of paintings “Flex” presented for Artissima, in the context of “Present Future 2015”, are elements of a larger archive of superimposed time indications or interruptions typically used in cinema. The installation “Accelerate/Decelerate” consists of a twin listening post where two 12” records with a series of locked grooves play continuous loops of sound produced by the artist in collaboration with a number of musicians and sound artists, accordingly to theory of bi-neural music developed in medical science as brain enhancement. Each of these loops aims to express interact with the notion of acceleration or deceleration.
Accelerate/Decelerate include the collaborations with:
John Dombroski, Jonatah Manno, SLPWLKR/Black String Records, N.M.O. (Nairobi Metropolitan Opera) with James Beckett, Gianni Blob, Irvin Climaco Morazan, and STAYDAL (Shawn M. Taylor & Jake Brondal).
And its produced with the support of V-Moda and Pro-Ject Turntables.
